Symantec Endpoint Protection is an anti-virus software encompassing virus and malware detection, enhanced firewall, and other security features to secure your personal machine. Faculty, staff, and students can learn how to install Symantec on their Windows and Mac machines.
Windows
Step 1: Visit stevens.edu/antivirus and download the appropriate installation file for your computer
Step 2: Once the file is downloaded, double-click the folder and select Extract ALL
Step 3: Double-click the Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer.app to begin the installation
Step 4: Choose Next and follow the installation wizard to install
Step 5: Once installation is completed, restart your computer. Symantec will be fully installed and your computer is now protected
MacOS
Step 1: Visit stevens.edu/antivirus and download the appropriate installation file for your computer
Step 2: Navigate to your Downloads folder, unzip Symantec_10_2020_Mac.zip, and run the Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer
Step 3: Select Agree & Install to start the installation
Step 4: The installation will begin. Once it's complete, select Close & Restart. Symantec will be fully installed and your computer is now protected
Run a Scan to Detect Threats
Symantec gives the option for users to run scans to detect any malicious activity on their computer. You have the option to run an active or full scan. An active scan will check common areas on your computer and takes approximately 2 to 3 minutes, a Full Scan will check your entire system and can take up to 1 to 2 hours. Below are steps on how to run a scan on your machine.
Step 1: Open Symantec. To Open Symantec on a Windows machine, click on the Start menu. Search and select Symantec
To Open Symantec on a Mac, click the Finder icon on the bottom of your screen and search Symantec under Applications
Step 2: Once Symantec is open, choose Scan for Threat
Step 3: Choose which scan you would like and click Run Scan
Step 4: The scan should now be running. Symantec will notify you once it is completed
